✍️ Editor’s Note
Do you remember the feeling of walking into your elementary school classroom? I do.
I remember the warmth of it, the way reading felt like an adventure, not a chore. I remember my teacher’s animated voice bringing stories to life, making us feel like we were right there within the pages. I remember the excitement when Weekly Reader was passed out, the smell of fresh newsprint, the feel of holding something real in my hands. We’d grab our pencils and crayons, connect the dots, solve puzzles, read stories, and we didn’t even realize we were learning.
As an adult, and now as a parent, I miss that.
Don’t get me wrong. Technology is wonderful. But there’s something irreplaceable about the old-fashioned way, the tactile joy of holding a newspaper or book in a child’s hands. The imagination sparked by a good story.
That’s why The Thistleburrow Times Newspaper was created. At its heart, it is about falling in love with reading. The kind of reading where characters become your friends, where you can travel anywhere in the world without leaving your chair. The kind that makes a child light up at the idea of getting their very own library card, that makes them reach for a book because they WANT to. My hope is that this newspaper becomes a moment of connection, an hour of imagination, and a reason to visit the library together.
Learning should never lose its sense of wonder, and certainly not during these crucial ages when curiosity is at its brightest.
So welcome to Thistleburrow. I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s rediscover the joy of reading together.
